What do I believe in?

I believe in us
Well that's the name of the essay that I wrote. This essay was written for a contest that pretty much our entire class was going for. The guidelines are right here:

I suppose that this essay has a primary purpose of getting someone to explain something interesting and different that they believe in. You have to support your claims with interesting ideas and personal examples from you life. There seems to be a lot of freedom on how you discuss. For example, if you really believe in love, you would have to explain love and how it effects us all. Is it something really important? This is a very interesting essay. And because of it's length requirement, it must be short and to the point. Like I said, my essay is on "I believe in Us".

Before I discuss it too much, here is the essay as I turned it in below:

I Believe in Us
I can say that about every single person I know. It’s not like I’m trying to be a cheesy motivator or anything, it’s just that this is what I believe.
There’s a lot going on in our world right now. Syria’s in a civil war. There’s a “War on Terror” raging in the Middle East. Like the president says, “We are in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression”. And of course, the world is going to end this December.
The world has been through a lot: Big bangs, giant asteroid collisions, and ice ages, just to name a few things. The world has survived through it all and only become a better place. In effect, we’ve also been through a lot. I mean, there have been droughts, plagues, famines, and so many wars. Even though all of these insane things happened, appropriately, we, as the children of the strong-willed earth have been able to make it through these vile times. It’s happened so many times. It’s evident that it’s only in our nature to be able to survive anything. To be able to achieve and better ourselves. To progress and make a better tomorrow.
Here, on Georgia Tech’s own campus, I’ve seen so many amazing things. There’s a four-hundred pound robot that students made that can help deliver medicine to people. There are so many organizations like Humanitech that work hard to better people in the community. Most importantly, there are countless groups that are working to educate students that aren’t yet in college. We are all trying so hard to make the world better. Students will even help other people in foreign countries. I see that so many students are going out of their way to help people they don’t even know.
I spent my summer working at a small, local food bank near my home. Working here I saw passionate people that worked not for their living, but only to help other people. I believe that these people worked for other people because of our human nature. It is because we will, no matter what, work hard to help each other. Because everyone at the food bank worked together they were able to expand and help even more people. Success occurs because we all will always work together.
Seeing everyone’s hard work and success in helping people just reminds me that we, as humans, as the children of the strong-willed earth will be able to make it through any hard times. I believe everyone not only can help each other, but everyone will always help each other. This I believe.

Well, this essay is really real. I mean, I'm putting forward my most true beliefs and trying to explain why I believe in those things. I feel like my authenticity will only help me in my attempts to get this message across. After analyzing the essay, I'm quite pleased with myself. I think my sarcasm has made the essay easy to read and interesting. I moved to some seriousness then after I hooked them to add some pathos to my cause. I think I had a good number of examples and decent enough flow to really push my point across.
